National Day of Service

We are calling on all Vincentians to engage in a day of National Service during the month of October 2009, as we approach our thirtieth anniversary of independence. As we reflect during this year on who and what we are as a nation, we should strive to crystallize our national identity and build pride in our nation state. We are appealing to all Vincentians to give selflessly of their time and talents, working in consort with others, for the development and preservation of our communities.

A number of community organizations are being formed or strengthened to plan activities for the development and economic viability of their communities. Find out what is happening in your community and get involved. If nothing is happening, citizens are encouraged to get in touch with the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit for information on how the National Committee for Homecoming 2009 can facilitate the establishment of a community organization to organize activities to welcome home your Vincentian Diaspora.

For the national day of service, the members of the community can come together for a clean up campaign or to help the less fortunate among you. What is important is that you get involved in a show of solidarity and national pride.
